Description

Description

A compact and sculptural species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing solitary flowers on short scapes from the base of small, clustered pseudobulbs. The blooms are tulip-shaped and intimate in form, with broad, rounded tepals that curve inward to create a nearly closed cup, enclosing a deeply pigmented interior with a prominent callus at the center — a refined and jewel-like flower that rewards close inspection.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–65% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the compact, upright foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–72°F (10–22°C); an intermediate-cool grower that benefits from good temperature drops at night and excellent air circulation.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; high, consistent humidity is essential for this cool-growing species.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark or sphagnum mix in a small pot. A charming collector's species prized for its jewel-like, tulip-shaped flowers and compact growth habit. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
