Description

Description

Distinctive broad-bellied flowers characterize this intriguing species, with unique inflated form that sets it apart from other Masdevallias. The vigorous habit and adaptable temperament reward growers with successive blooms when given intermediate conditions and consistent care.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50-70% shade cloth protection. Avoid direct sunlight which can damage foliage.
  • Temperature: Intermediate grower. Daytime 64-77°F (18-25°C), nighttime 55-64°F (13-18°C). Maintain a 10-12°F day-night differential for optimal flowering.
  • Humidity: 65-80% with good air circulation. Use humidity trays or humidifiers while ensuring adequate airflow to prevent disease.
  • Watering: Keep media consistently moist. Mounted plants need daily misting, potted specimens 3-4 times weekly. Reduce slightly in winter without allowing complete drying.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador at elevations of 2,000-2,800 meters. Best grown mounted on tree fern or cork bark, though adapts well to small pots with fine bark mix or sphagnum moss.
