Information

Description

Description

This distinctive form of Masd. constricta produces tubular flowers with smooth, glabrous surfaces and a characteristic constricted throat. The blooms emerge on upright stems above the compact foliage, with elongated sepals that taper into fine tails and successive flowering throughout the growing season.

  • Light: Bright shade to filtered light conditions, avoiding direct sunlight.
  • Temperature: Cool grower: daytime temperatures of 55-70°F (13-21°C) with nighttime drops to 48-58°F (9-14°C). Consistent cool conditions with good day-night temperature differential promote healthy growth and flowering.
  • Humidity: Maintain 65-80% relative humidity with excellent air circulation around the plant. Use fans to ensure constant gentle air movement, preventing water accumulation on foliage.
  • Watering: Keep media consistently moist throughout the year without allowing it to become soggy. Reduce watering frequency slightly during winter months while maintaining high ambient humidity levels.

Additional Notes

The form name "glabra" refers to the smooth, hairless surface of the flowers, distinguishing it from the typical form of the species. Best grown mounted on tree fern or cork bark, or in small pots with fine-grade bark mix or sphagnum moss for optimal drainage and aeration.
