Description

Description

This is a small-sized epiphyte indigenous to the Philippines, where it grows in wet tropical forests. It forms a dense, clumping plant with close-set, pear-shaped pseudobulbs, and is known for its showy, spider-like flowers.

  • Light: Provide filtered or diffused light; it thrives in conditions of almost full shade but needs bright ambient light to bloom well.
  • Temperature: Grow as an Intermediate to Warm temperature species. The ideal range is between 58-88°F (14-31°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity, preferably over 60%. As with most Bulbophyllum, a strong and constant air movement is essential to prevent fungal issues and maintain plant health.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the potting medium consistently moist. The medium should be allowed to dry lightly between waterings but should never become completely dry.

Additional Notes

This Bulbophyllum is known for its 4-inch, spidery blooms that are typically a waxy reddish-brown or yellow and red. Be aware that the flowers of this species are often reported to have an unpleasant odor.
