Restrepia trichoglossa #1 brings the delicate floral architecture of Restrepia to a close-up botanical display. Its flowers emerge beside the leaves, combining a broad lower segment formed by joined sepals with slender upper segments. This small epiphytic orchid is an engaging choice for collectors who enjoy observing intricate blooms: an eye-level position makes discovering a fresh bud among the leafy growths especially rewarding.
Care Guide
-
Light: Provide gentle, filtered light or bright indirect light. Protect from strong direct sunlight and excessive heat from growing lights.
-
Temperature: Maintain cool to intermediate conditions with cooler nights. Avoid prolonged excessive heat, frost, and abrupt temperature changes.
-
Watering: Keep the fine roots evenly moist without leaving them waterlogged. Avoid prolonged complete drying. Check mounted plants frequently and adjust watering to airflow, temperature, and the growing medium.
-
Water Quality: Use rainwater, reverse-osmosis water, or another low-mineral source when possible. Flush the root zone periodically to limit fertilizer salt buildup.
-
Humidity: Provide high humidity with gentle, continuous air circulation. Ventilate enclosed growing spaces to prevent stagnant, excessively wet conditions.
-
Potting or Mounting: Use a small, well-drained pot with an airy, moisture-retentive mix of fine bark and loosely arranged sphagnum moss. Mounting is suitable where reliable humidity and frequent watering are available. Keep leaf bases above the medium.
-
Feeding: Apply a very dilute orchid fertilizer during active growth, following the manufacturer's directions. Feed sparingly and rinse periodically with clean water.
-
Maintenance: Handle roots and developing flowers gently. Preserve healthy leafy stems, which may flower again, and remove only fully dried growth. Refresh deteriorating medium when needed while minimizing root disturbance.
With gentle light, dependable root moisture, and a humid, well-ventilated setting, Restrepia trichoglossa #1 adds intricate floral interest to a carefully tended orchid collection.
