Information

Cattleya rex splash x self

A striking color form of this highly celebrated species native to the cloud forests of South America, this selfing represents an exceptional opportunity for collectors. The robust, upright epiphyte produces magnificent, fragrant flowers that feature crystalline segments with a dramatic splash pattern and a deeply veined, tubular lip.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; provide vigorous air movement to protect the thick foliage.
  • Temperature: 59–79°F (15–26°C); an adaptable intermediate grower that responds wonderfully to stable indoor or greenhouse environments.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; high, consistent humidity is essential to promote robust vegetative development and optimal flower substance.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when actively growing, allowing the medium to approach dryness between applications, and reduce frequency during the winter rest.

Additional Notes

This large-flowered orchid performs best when grown in a coarse, fast-draining bark mix inside a well-ventilated pot to accommodate its mid-to-large plant size. It ships bare root, well established, and should be gently rehydrated at an intermediate temperature prior to potting upon arrival.
