Description

Description

A fascinating miniature species that captivates with its intricate, successive flowers borne directly on the leaf margins — a hallmark of the genus — displaying the remarkable detail and complexity that makes Lths. equus-frisiae a prized find among micro-orchid enthusiasts. Its compact, ramicaul growth habit makes it ideal for terrarium culture or cool, humid growing setups.

  • Light: Low to moderate indirect light under 60–70% shade cloth; avoid any direct sun, which quickly damages the delicate foliage.
  • Temperature: Cool grower. Daytime 58–68°F (14–20°C), nighttime lows of 48–55°F (9–13°C); consistent cool temperatures are essential for long-term health.
  • Humidity: Requires very high humidity of 80–90%; a terrarium or enclosed setup is strongly recommended, with gentle air movement to prevent stagnation.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate or mount consistently moist at all times; Lepanthes species do not tolerate drying out and perform best when moisture is never interrupted.

Additional Notes

Native to Ecuador and Colombia at elevations of 1,800–2,800 meters in mossy cloud forests. Best grown mounted on tree fern or cork bark with a thin layer of live sphagnum moss to maintain constant moisture around the fine root system.
