Description

Description

A truly exceptional species from the cloud forests of Ecuador, prized as much for its ornamental foliage as for its flowers. The leaves are thick and succulent, boldly bicolored in deep green and burgundy-purple with striking silver-white mottling across the surface. Flowers emerge directly from the base of the rosette on short scapes, with narrow, strongly recurved tepals and a compact lip — a remarkable species that commands attention year-round.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can fade the distinctive leaf patterning.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that adapts well to stable indoor conditions with good air movement.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; consistent humidity supports both the ornamental foliage and healthy root development.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; the succulent leaves store moisture, so avoid overwatering.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark or sphagnum mix in a shallow pot to showcase its rosette habit. A standout collector's species valued for its year-round ornamental appeal. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
