Information

Description

Description

A hybrid between C. Fredis J. Refunjol and C. dowiana, combining the bold, multi-flowered habit of the former with the legendary golden coloration and richly ruffled lip inherited from the latter. The result is a large, showy Cattleya with warm-toned blooms and a commanding presence — a standout in any warm-growing collection.

  • Light: Bright indirect light; 40–50% shade cloth. Tolerates morning sun to promote flowering.
  • Temperature: Warm grower. Daytime 70–85°F (21–29°C), nights 60–68°F (15–20°C).
  • Humidity: 60–80% relative humidity with good air circulation.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to dry slightly between waterings; reduce slightly during cooler months.

Additional Notes

Grow in well-draining pots or baskets with coarse bark. Repot every 2–3 years or when the mix breaks down. C. dowiana, native to Costa Rica and Colombia, is one of the most influential species in Cattleya hybridization, prized for its golden flowers and intense fragrance.
