A spectacular fragrant epiphyte from the montane forests of New Guinea, bearing large solitary flowers with an exceptionally elongated dorsal sepal tapering into a long, fine tail, and sweeping lateral sepals that curve downward in a broad arc. A small contrasting labelo at the center completes a floral silhouette that is among the most dramatic in the genus.
Additional Notes
Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern to accommodate its creeping rhizome and ensure optimal airflow at the roots. Ships bare root, well established.
Not received this plant yet or any of my order. Please advise Dr Ken Griffiths
Had a plant before but lost it to rot after it was outside in the summer and we had 4 days of constant rain. I will take better care of this one.
Plant arrived with another, seemingly healthy. However, within a couple of days signs of rot were evident and despite my best efforts, the plant died.
Now I have had 3 Bulbophyllum speciosum from Ecuagenera, all started rotting after few weeks.I don't know what it is, even keeping them drier didn't help, no new shoots or anything like that were formed.
The plant I received was not in good shape. There were many pseudobulbs rotting, after a few days all the bulbs were rotting or fully rotten. The plant was of good size though so hopefully when I get a replacement plant I get something around the same size. One of the only plants I have received where I had an issue with the plant.
