Information

Bulbophyllum membranifolium subsp. membranifolium (syn costatum Ecuagenera)

A warm-growing epiphyte from the lowland and montane forests of Southeast Asia, producing solitary flowers with a large, erect, densely spotted lanceolate dorsal sepal and fused lateral sepals forming a deeply channeled, concave structure with strong longitudinal veining. The intricate floral architecture of this species, characteristic of the Sestochilus alliance, makes it a standout specimen for collectors.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–50% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun to protect the foliage.
  • Temperature: 65–86°F (18–30°C); a warm grower with a minimum tolerance around 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: 70–85%; maintain high humidity with strong air movement to keep roots healthy.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Also known in cultivation as Bulbophyllum costatum. Best grown mounted on cork or tree fern, or in a basket with a coarse bark mix for excellent drainage and airflow. Ships bare root, well established.
