Description

Description

This miniature, monopodial epiphyte is native to Vietnam and Thailand, growing in evergreen forests at elevations between 1000 and 1500 meters. Known for its compact stature and fleshy, almost cylindrical leaves, this species is noted for its interesting, spurred flowers. It is often grown mounted to allow quick root drying.

  • Light: Requires medium to bright, filtered light. It needs good light levels to encourage flowering but must be protected from direct, intense sunlight.
  • Temperature: It's a warm-to-intermediate growing species. Maintain daytime temperatures between 70-85°F (21-29°C). Night temperatures should not drop below 60°F (16°C).
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential, ideally 60% to 80%. Provide constant and vigorous air circulation to prevent stagnant conditions and rot.
  • Watering: Water frequently and generously throughout the year, especially if mounted. The roots should dry quickly, but the plant, which lacks water-storing organs, should not be allowed to remain dry for long periods.

Additional Notes

It produces short, often drooping inflorescences bearing several small, waxy flowers. The flowers are typically white or pale yellow, often marked with red-purple spots or stripes, and feature a distinctive spur at the base of the lip.
