Columnea tenensis

An attractive epiphytic plant native to the Tenesí region of Venezuela, Columnea tenensis is popular for its trailing or pendulous growth habit, making it perfect for hanging baskets.

• Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Filtered sunlight is best; avoid direct midday sun, which can burn the leaves. Insufficient light leads to sparse growth and poor flowering.
• Temperature: Keep the plant in warm household temperatures, ideally between 65-85°F (18-29°C). It is very sensitive to cold and must be protected from drafts.
• Humidity: High humidity is crucial. You can maintain this with a humidifier, by grouping it with other plants, or by using a pebble tray.
• Watering: Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. The soil should stay consistently moist but never soggy. Use lukewarm water and reduce frequency slightly in winter.

Additional Notes

The unique, tubular flowers, similar to the famous "Goldfish Plant", appear along the stems. For the best performance, use well-draining potting mix suitable for epiphytes (like a mix of peat moss, perlite, and orchid bark), and prune the plant after blooming to encourage new, bushy growth and a more abundant flower display.
