Information

Anathallis dimidia

Anathallis dimidia

Anathallis dimidia is a delightful miniature epiphytic orchid native to the cloud forests of the Andes, including Ecuador. An intermediate-growing member of the Orchidaceae family, it produces clusters of tiny, intricate flowers on slender stems above compact, neat foliage. Like all Anathallis, it lacks pseudobulbs, giving it a particularly compact and tidy appearance that makes it ideal for terrarium cultivation and miniature orchid collections. Its ease of care and charming floral display make it a rewarding species for growers of all levels.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; filtered sunlight is ideal — avoid direct sun which can scorch the delicate leaves
  • Temperature: Intermediate; ideal daytime temperatures 18–24°C (65–75°F), cooler nights 10–15°C (50–59°F); reflects its Andean cloud forest origins
  • Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but never waterlogged; frequent, light waterings are recommended; this genus has no pseudobulbs and cannot tolerate prolonged drought
  • Humidity: High humidity essential, 50–70%; use a humidifier or grow in a terrarium or enclosed environment to maintain adequate moisture levels
  • Substrate/Mounting: Best grown mounted on cork bark or fine tree fern; alternatively use a very fine, well-draining sphagnum moss mix in a small pot

Anathallis dimidia is a charming and undemanding miniature orchid that brings the beauty of Andean cloud forests into any terrarium or collection. A native Ecuadorian species from Ecuagenera, grown with care in Ecuador.
