Anathallis acuminata flavescens

Anathallis acuminata flavescens

Anathallis acuminata flavescens is a rare and charming variety of the Andean miniature orchid Anathallis acuminata, distinguished by its pale yellow to yellowish-green floral coloration — flavescens meaning "becoming yellow" in Latin. Native to the cloud forests of Ecuador and neighboring Andean countries, this cool-growing member of the Orchidaceae family shares the same compact, terrarium-friendly habit as the species, producing clusters of delicate flowers on slender stems above neat, strap-like foliage. Its unusual flower color makes it a particularly sought-after form among miniature orchid collectors.

Care Guide

  • Light: Bright, indirect light; tolerates some direct morning or late afternoon sun — avoid intense midday sun which can scorch the delicate foliage
  • Temperature: Cool; ideal daytime temperatures 16–24°C (61–75°F), cooler nights 10–16°C (50–61°F); reflects its Andean cloud forest origins — avoid prolonged heat
  • Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist; water thoroughly and allow excess to drain freely; reduce frequency during cooler periods; this genus has no pseudobulbs and cannot tolerate prolonged drought
  • Humidity: High humidity essential, 60–80%; use a humidifier or grow in a terrarium or enclosed environment to maintain adequate moisture levels
  • Substrate/Mounting: Best grown mounted on cork bark or fine tree fern; alternatively use a very fine, well-draining sphagnum moss mix in a small pot

Anathallis acuminata flavescens is a rare and collectible variety that adds a subtle but distinctive pale yellow charm to any miniature orchid or terrarium collection. A native Ecuadorian cloud forest orchid from Ecuagenera, grown with care in Ecuador.
