A reed-stem epiphyte endemic to the cloud forests of Ecuador, bearing few-flowered racemes of highly distinctive blooms with an erect, elongated dorsal sepal, narrow horizontal lateral sepals, and greatly reduced petals. The flower is dominated by a large, broad, shield-shaped lip with a shiny texture and small upward-curving lateral lobes, creating one of the most architecturally unusual floral structures in the genus.
Additional Notes
Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix or mounted on cork. Plants are shipped bare root and well established, ready to settle into their new growing environment.
Received this orchid and as others have said, it did not look very good initially. I think this is just due to the heat and distance it has traveled. Removed the dying Leaves and with a little TLC now there is vigorous Root Growth from multiple bulbs a month later. I would recommend this plant but you must have patience and be persistent for the first few weeks.
Unlike the other plants in my shipment, this plant died within a week.
I have purchased several of these plants from you previously with excellent results. The three with this order arrived damaged and have since deteriorated. It is debatable if they will survive.
