Description

Description

This charming, medium-sized epiphytic species, often called 'The Lovely Rodriguezia', is native to the high-elevation forests of South America. It is valued for its compact growth and long, pendant racemes of very fragrant flowers.

  • Light: Prefers shaded to semi-shaded conditions. Provide bright, filtered light and avoid any direct, hot sun exposure.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions are necessary. Day temperatures should be around 75-85°F (24-29°C), with a night drop to 58-72°F (14-22°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity (75-85%) combined with excellent air movement to prevent fungal issues on the pseudobulbs. This species thrives when mounted or in a terrarium.
  • Watering: Water abundantly during the active growing season, allowing the medium to just approach dryness between waterings. Reduce frequency slightly in winter, but never allow the plant to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Features small, compressed pseudobulbs covered by leaf sheaths and a single apical leaf up to 25 cm long. It grows best mounted or in a pot with coarse, fast-draining media like bark or charcoal to allow its wiry roots to dry quickly after watering.
