Information

Description

Description

A robust epiphyte from the Andean cloud forests of South America, forming dense clusters of broad, fleshy lanceolate leaves. Solitary flowers emerge dramatically from the base on short scapes, featuring elongated, strongly recurved sepals, shorter petals, and a large, prominent dark lip that commands immediate attention.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the broad foliage.
  • Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); an intermediate grower that benefits from stable conditions and good air circulation.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; consistent humidity supports vigorous growth and reliable blooming.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Ships bare root and well-established — pot promptly upon arrival in a well-draining bark mix and water generously to rehydrate the roots. Best grown in a standard pot sized to accommodate its robust root system.
