Information

Description

Description

A compact reed-stem orchid from the cloud forests of South America, producing erect, densely packed cylindrical spikes crowded with numerous small, tightly arranged flowers that form a solid, bottlebrush-like inflorescence. The slender stems carry narrow, lanceolate leaves and bloom freely, making it a distinctive and ornamental species for cool-growing collections.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the narrow foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a cool grower that requires the cold nights characteristic of high Andean cloud forests to thrive and bloom reliably.
  • Humidity: 75–85%; high humidity supports healthy stem development and consistent flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

A species from the cloud forests of South America, best grown in a small pot with a fine, well-draining bark-based mix. The upright, cylindrical spikes are a striking feature that sets this species apart from other reed-stem Epidendrum. Ships bare root, well-established.
