Description

Description

A spectacular hybrid featuring the distinctive bucket-shaped flowers characteristic of Coryanthes, with intricate patterns and bold coloration that create a dramatic display. The vigorous growth habit and fascinating pollination mechanism make it a conversation piece for collectors.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40-60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun which can damage the large pendulous inflorescences and leaves.
  • Temperature: Warm to intermediate grower. Daytime 70-85°F (21-29°C), nighttime 60-68°F (16-20°C). Tolerates a range of temperatures but benefits from a 10-15°F day-night differential.
  • Humidity: 60-80% with strong air movement; maintain through humidity trays, humidifiers, or greenhouse conditions.
  • Watering: Keep consistently moist during active growth; reduce slightly during winter rest period. Mounted or basket-grown specimens require daily watering, potted plants need watering every 2-3 days.

Additional Notes

A living tribute to the vision and commitment of Alex Portilla, one of Ecuagenera’s directors. Best grown in hanging baskets or mounted to accommodate pendulous flower spikes. Use coarse bark mix or tree fern with excellent drainage.
