Description

Description

Among the most architecturally extraordinary orchids in cultivation, bucket orchids are renowned for their elaborate, helmet-shaped lip that forms a liquid-filled chamber used in a precise pollination mechanism. This alba form presents that spectacular floral engineering in pristine, unpigmented tones — a rare and highly sought-after variant for serious collectors.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light under 40–50% shade cloth; consistent light supports the vigorous pseudobulb growth needed to sustain the large, pendant flower spikes.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to Warm grower. Daytime 72–85°F (22–29°C), nighttime lows of 62–68°F (17–20°C); avoid cold drafts or temperature drops below 60°F (15°C).
  • Humidity: Requires high humidity of 70–85%; a humidifier is strongly recommended, with good air circulation to prevent fungal issues on the large, soft pseudobulbs.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but never waterlogged; Coryanthes are heavy feeders and drinkers — never allow the roots to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Native to tropical lowland and foothill forests at low to mid elevations. Best grown in open, well-draining baskets with coarse bark or sphagnum to accommodate the pendant spikes that emerge from the base of the pseudobulbs.
