Information

Zootrophion lappaceum

A miniature species from the cloud forests of South America, producing small, cage-like flowers with fused, ribbed sepals that form a closed, ovoid structure densely covered in short, bristle-like projections — giving the flower a distinctly textured, burr-like appearance. The flowers emerge singly on short inflorescences from the base of the compact, leathery leaves.

  • Light: Low to medium indirect light with 70–80% shade cloth; avoid any direct sun exposure.
  • Temperature: 50–65°F (10–18°C); a cool grower requiring stable cool temperatures and constant air movement.
  • Humidity: 80–90%; high humidity is essential at all times.
  • Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist; never allow the roots to dry out between waterings.

Additional Notes

Best grown in fine sphagnum moss or mounted on cork bark with excellent drainage and strong air circulation to prevent rot at the base. Shipped bare root and well established.
