This distinctive Ecuadorian species produces elegant flowers with fused sepals forming a tubular structure and prominent sepaline tails that create a graceful appearance. The compact growth habit and successive blooming make it a prized addition to cool-growing collections.
Additional Notes
Native to the cloud forests at elevations of 2,200-3,000 meters, this species is valued for its elegant flower form and reliable blooming habit. Best grown mounted on tree fern or cork bark, or in small pots with fine-grade bark mix or sphagnum moss.
The M. catapheres arrived with slight root damage (some dead root tips). I trimmed those off, and now, 2.5 wks. later, the roots are green and firm and new leaf shoots have begun growing.
