Information

Description

Description

A reed-stem orchid native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, with darkly pigmented stems and short, dense spikes bearing medium-sized flowers with strongly twisted, spiraling lanceolate sepals and equally contorted petals with undulate, membranous margins. The crinkled, paper-like floral texture is highly unusual within the genus and immediately recognizable.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); an intermediate grower that thrives with stable temperatures and good air circulation.
  • Humidity: 70–85%; consistent humidity supports healthy stem development and reliable flowering.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix. The twisted, membranous floral structure is best appreciated up close and makes it a standout specimen in any intermediate collection. Ships bare root, well-established.
