Description

Description

A highly floriferous reed-stem orchid native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing massive, densely branched panicles crowded with hundreds of small flowers bearing narrow lanceolate sepals and a trilobed lip with a bilobed central lobe and undulate, contrasting margins. The cloud-like inflorescence is one of the most prolific in the genus, creating a spectacular floral display when in full bloom.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun, which can scorch the foliage.
  • Temperature: 50–68°F (10–20°C); a cool grower that requires the cold nights characteristic of high Andean cloud forests to thrive and bloom reliably.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; high humidity is essential to support the vigorous growth and massive inflorescences this species produces.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the substrate to approach dryness between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the roots.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a large pot with a well-draining bark-based mix and excellent air circulation. Ships bare root, well-established.
