A species from the tropical forests of the Pacific region, producing upright inflorescences with large, distinctive flowers characterized by strongly twisted, horn-like lateral petals that curve dramatically upward and outward from the center. The dorsal sepal is narrow and erect, the lateral sepals spread wide, and the tubular lip is prominently veined and well-defined.
Additional Notes
Grow in a coarse bark-based mix in a well-draining pot, and repot only when the medium begins to break down or the plant outgrows its container. Shipped bare root and well established.
The plant seems to have been well packed but it seems to have been severely stressed during shipping. About 90% of the leaves had turned yellow and fallen off the canes. Only the top 2 or three leaves at the tips of the canes survived. I gave the plant first aid and potted it. It appears to be stable. I’m pretty sure that it will survive.
Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for our Dendrobium stratiotes orchid. We apologize for any stress the plant may have experienced during shipping. We assure you that we take great care in packaging our plants for safe delivery. However, we're glad to hear that the plant is stable now and we hope it continues to thrive under your care. Thank you for your support and happy gardening!
When I picked up the plant at the Oregon Orchid Society's annual show in April, I failed to inspect the plant that I had pre-paid. Had I inspected it, I would have asked for a different plant or a REFUND. The plant started out with yellow leaves and black spots. To date, it has lost 3/4 of its leaves and the ones that are left continue to turn yellow and fall off. I am quite certain the plant will not survive. I am not new to orchids and I can assure you that this is not a "user" problem.
Plant arrived damaged and turning black. All leaves had fallen off. Poorly packaged for shipping. Asked for a refund.
most it's leaves fall off. i hope it will be okay.
The plant arrived in Florida, USA in good shape and very healthy. The leaves and root ball looked happy. It is a large plant which makes me happy. I can easily recommend Ecuagenera and the stratiotes.
