Information

Description

Description

One of the most floriferous species in the genus, native to the cloud forests of Ecuador, producing an extraordinary mass of flowers simultaneously from the base of each pseudobulb. The blooms are tulip-shaped with broad, cupped tepals in cream-yellow tones boldly splashed with deep burgundy markings, creating a spectacular display that covers the entire plant when in full bloom.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can scorch the upright, strap-like foliage.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that performs well with stable temperatures and good air circulation.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity is key for healthy root development and prolific blooming.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix in a medium to large pot. A true showstopper when mature — one of the most impressive blooming Maxillaria species available. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
