Information

Oncidopsis Papageno

A floriferous hybrid of Oip. Aglaon × Mps. vexillaria, combining the vigor of a complex oncidioid hybrid with the large, pansy-like flower form of the Miltoniopsis lineage. Flowers are generously sized with purple-magenta sepals and petals densely spotted and suffused, and a broad, bilobed labellum in pale lavender-pink with a luminous orange-yellow center and radiating red lines.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–70% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which scorches the flat, soft leaves and fades the flower coloration.
  • Temperature: 55–72°F (13–22°C); a cool to intermediate grower that requires a distinct nighttime temperature drop to initiate and sustain blooming.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; moderate to high humidity supports healthy pseudobulb development and prolongs flower longevity.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the medium to approach dryness between waterings; avoid waterlogging, which quickly leads to root rot in this alliance.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a fine bark mix with excellent drainage; avoid repotting unless necessary, as Oncidopsis hybrids resent root disturbance. Plants are shipped bare root and well-established, with mature pseudobulbs ready to bloom.
