Description

Lepanthes chrysokallos is a striking miniature orchid species from the Andean cloud forests of Ecuador, admired for its bright golden-orange flowers and intricate structure. Under stable humidity and temperatures, this species can produce frequent blooms throughout the year.

  • Light: Provide low to medium filtered light (60–70% shade) similar to the shaded canopy of cloud forests. Bright indirect light promotes stronger growth and more consistent flowering.
  • Temperature: Growing naturally around 1500 m elevation, this species prefers intermediate to intermediate-cool conditions. Ideal temperatures are 18–24Β°C (64–75Β°F) during the day with a nighttime drop to 12–16Β°C (54–61Β°F).
  • Humidity:Β Maintain 70–90% humidity with gentle but constant airflow. Stable humidity is essential for healthy growth and regular blooming.
  • Watering: Keep the plant evenly moist at all times. Lepanthes have very fine roots and should never dry completely. Mounted plants may require daily watering or frequent misting, especially during warmer periods.

Additional notes:

For best results, grow it mounted on cork or tree fern with a thin layer of sphagnum moss, allowing constant moisture while maintaining good airflow. Its vivid color and miniature habit make it a standout species for collectors of Lepanthes orchids.
