Masdevallia trautmanniana

A rare and sought-after intermediate-cool species from Ecuador, Masd. trautmanniana is named in honor of Trautmann and is seldom available in cultivation. Its scarcity reflects both the difficulty of its production and the high demand it commands among serious Masdevallia collectors.

• Light: Grow under 50–70% shade cloth; direct sun causes rapid damage to its fine foliage and must be avoided.
• Temperature: Intermediate-Cool grower. Daytime 57–68°F (14–20°C), nights 46–55°F (8–13°C). Benefits from cool nights; avoid prolonged exposure to temperatures above 72°F (22°C).
• Humidity: Requires 75–90% relative humidity; its fine root system benefits greatly from a humidifier with steady air movement to prevent desiccation.
• Watering: Keep evenly and consistently moist; best grown mounted or in a small pot with fine bark to allow the roots to dry slightly between waterings, with more frequent misting during warmer months.
