Description

Anathallis pachyphyta Culture

Anathallis pachyphyta is a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte native to wet montane forests of Ecuador and northern Peru. It grows as a shortly creeping plant with erect ramicauls.

  • Light: Bright, filtered light. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Temperature: Cool to cold growing conditions are preferred, with a temperature range of 13-18°C (55-65°F) during the day and 10-16°C (50-60°F) at night.
  • Humidity: High humidity levels are essential, ideally between 60-80%.
  • Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist, but avoid overwatering which can lead to root rot. Allow the top layer of the substrate to dry slightly between waterings.

Additional Notes

  • Floral Characteristics: This orchid produces small, star-shaped flowers, approximately 5mm in size, intermittently over a long period. The flowers are described as orange with red-tipped petals and a red lip. The sepals are sparsely hairy, and the lip is glandular and pubescent.
