Description

Description

This terrestrial or epiphytic orchid is native to Ecuador. The flowers are short-lived but attractive. Here are some tips for growing it successfully:

  • Light: It requires bright light or partial shade for good flowering. Avoid direct, intense sunlight to prevent the leaves from burning.
  • Temperature: This is a Cool to Intermediate growing species. Maintain daytime temperatures from 60-80°F (16-27°C) and ensure a crucial nocturnal drop to 58-65°F (14-18°C) to stimulate blooming.
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential, ideally between 70% and 80%. Excellent air circulation must be provided at all times to prevent fungal issues.
  • Watering: Water regularly and heavily throughout the year to keep the growing medium consistently moist, especially during active growth. Ensure the pot has exceptional drainage to prevent standing water.

Additional Notes

It's a relatively small-sized Sobralia, growing on cane-like stems up to about 0.5 meters (18 inches) tall. The flowers are successive and short-lived, appearing on terminal inflorescences.
