Information

Cattleya purpurata (Sanguinea # 20 Celio x 'Sanguinea Dirlene')

A striking species from the coastal forests of South America, representing an exceptional line-bred cross between two highly select and prized clones. This robust, upright epiphyte features tall pseudobulbs that yield a magnificent, stately display of large, heavily textured flowers on strong, prominent inflorescences.

  • Light: Bright indirect light or filtered sunlight with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct midday sun to protect the upright foliage.
  • Temperature: 59–86°F (15–30°C); an adaptable intermediate grower that tolerates warm days and appreciates a slight night drop.
  • Humidity: 60–80%; consistent atmospheric humidity ensures healthy leaf development and proactive root establishment.
  • Watering: Water abundantly during active growth and let the substrate approach dryness before watering again; keep the roots well-aerated.

Additional Notes

Best accommodated in an open basket or coarse, fast-draining bark mix to support its large root system and impressive plant and flower size. Ships bare root, well established, and ready to be rehydrated at an intermediate temperature and potted upon receipt.
