Information

Description

Description

A densely flowered pendant-spike species from the cloud forests of Central America, bearing tightly packed racemes of cupped, helmet-shaped blooms along a gracefully arching stem. The concave, cucullate sepals and broad petals frame a prominently structured lip with a distinctive helmet-like hypochile — a hallmark of this species.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can stress the pseudobulbs and foliage.
  • Temperature: 55–75°F (13–24°C); intermediate grower that appreciates a moderate nighttime temperature drop to stimulate spike production.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity promotes vigorous pseudobulb development and abundant pendant spikes.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly during active growth; reduce slightly after pseudobulbs mature, but never allow the roots to dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Best cultivated in a hanging basket or mounted to allow the pendant spikes to arch and hang freely. Use a coarse, open bark mix with excellent drainage and airflow. Noted for its pleasant fragrance. Plants are shipped bare root and well established.
