Description

Description

An extraordinary species hailing from the wet tropical forests of Central America, developing deeply ribbed, cylindrical pseudobulbs with large, plicate leaves. The remarkable, pendent inflorescences carry complex, waxy blossoms featuring a highly specialized bucket-shaped lip designed to collect liquid, making it a highly sought-after spectacle for collectors.

  • Light: Medium indirect light with 50–60% shade cloth; protect the broad foliage from direct afternoon sun.
  • Temperature: 68–86°F (20–30°C); a warm to hot grower that thrives in stable, humid environments year-round.
  • Humidity: 75–90%; demands high, constant atmospheric humidity alongside gentle air movement for healthy growth.
  • Watering: Water frequently to keep the medium evenly moist, ensuring exceptional drainage to protect the root system.

Additional Notes

Best cultivated in a hanging wire or slatted basket to allow its completely pendulous, large-flowered inflorescences to emerge naturally from the bottom. Ships bare root, well established, and needs a gentle rehydration at an intermediate temperature before being settled into a loose, airy potting medium upon arrival.
