Information

Description

Description

This miniature to small, warm-growing epiphytic orchid is native to hot, humid rainforests in Thailand, Malaysia, India, and the Philippines, found at 200–1,400 meters. It is best grown in shallow pots or baskets due to its creeping nature.

  • Light: Provide bright, indirect light. Direct, harsh sun should be avoided.
  • Temperature: This warm-to-hot growing species needs daytime temperatures of 68-88°F (20-31°C), with a minimum nighttime drop of 6-10°F (4-6°C) to encourage robust growth and flowering.
  • Humidity: High humidity is crucial, ideally 70-85%. Good air circulation is necessary to prevent disease.
  • Watering: Water freely and keep the potting medium evenly moist. This orchid must not dry out completely.

Additional Notes

Its large, spectacular flowers have a fetid odor to attract fly pollinators. The blossoms can be up to 6-12 inches long, often yellow to reddish-brown with stripes, and feature a small, motile lip.
