(1877), subgenus Acianthera [Scheidw.] Luer (1986), is a rare and enchanting miniature orchid species from the cloud forests of South America, including Ecuador and Brazil. A member of the vast Pleurothallidinae subtribe, this tiny intermediate-growing epiphyte is a prized gem among terrarium growers and miniature orchid specialists. Its name — crinita, meaning "hairy" or "with long hairs" in Latin — refers to the delicate, hair-like fringes or cilia that adorn its flowers, giving them an almost otherworldly, ethereal appearance when viewed under magnification.
