Description

Description

This is a small to medium-sized terrestrial orchid from wet montane forests (600–1700 meters) in Central and South America. This warm-to-cool grower is characterized by erect, cane-like stems and pleated, lanceolate leaves.

  • Light: It requires bright, indirect light or partial shade. Ensure sufficient light for blooming, but the pleated foliage must be shielded from intense, direct sun.
  • Temperature: This warm-to-cool species thrives best in intermediate conditions. The ideal range is 60-80°F (16-27°C). Maintain stable temperatures and protect the plant from cold drafts.
  • Humidity: High humidity, between 60% and 80%, is necessary. Always ensure excellent air movement is provided to prevent spotting or fungal issues in the high-moisture environment.
  • Watering: Water liberally and frequently to maintain the well-draining media consistently moist, as the plant must never dry out completely. Superior drainage is mandatory to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes

It produces terminal flowers up to 1 3/5" (4 cm). Individual blooms are short-lived, but they appear successively during the year on a terminal inflorescence, offering an extended blooming period.
