Description

Description

Sobralia kermesina, the Crimson Sobralia, is a terrestrial orchid endemic to Ecuador, typically found at high elevations. This cool-to-intermediate grower features cane-like stems and distinct pleated leaves.

  • Light: It needs bright, indirect light or partial shade. Ensure good light levels for blooming, but shield the foliage from direct sun to prevent scorching.
  • Temperature: This orchid prefers intermediate conditions, ideally between 68-86°F (20-30°C). Maintain stable temperatures and protect from extremes.
  • Humidity: High humidity, between 60% and 80%, is essential. Always provide strong air movement to prevent issues in the high-moisture environment.
  • Watering: Water liberally and frequently to keep the well-draining media consistently moist. Superior drainage is mandatory to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes

The plant produces striking terminal flowers, typically a stunning crimson color. Individual blooms are short-lived, but they appear in succession, offering an extended display.
