Description

Description

This is a miniature, hot to warm growing epiphyte native to Malaysia, Singapore, and Borneo, in lowland and lower montane forests. It features small, closely spaced ovoid pseudobulbs, each topped with a single, thick, dark green leaf.

  • Light: Requires intermediate light, which is brighter than that for Phalaenopsis but should be filtered. Avoid direct midday sun, which can easily damage the foliage.
  • Temperature: Grown as a Warm to Intermediate temperature species. The optimal range is between 68-86°F (20-30°C). It thrives best when night temperatures drop by about 10-15°F (6-8°C).
  • Humidity: Prefers very high humidity, ideally over 80%. Excellent and constant air circulation is vital to prevent fungal infections associated with high moisture levels.
  • Watering: Water frequently and liberally to keep the potting medium consistently moist; this species should never dry out completely. Potted plants may need watering several times a week.

Additional Notes

The flower spike can be up to 12 inches (30 cm) long, carrying up to 12 flowers that open successively. The blooms are often described as elegant, starry, and sometimes possess a fragrance.
