A clustering species from Andean cloud forests with branched, multi-flowered racemes carrying numerous blooms simultaneously. Each flower features spreading sepals with long, slender tails and a densely fimbriate margin, giving the blooms a bristly, feathered texture.
Additional Notes
Grown and propagated by Ecuagenera in the highlands of Ecuador. One of the more floriferous species in the genus — mature plants in good conditions can carry dozens of blooms at once. Shipped bare root, well-established.
The plant arrived with no leaf loss and only 1/4 of its roots damaged. Today, 11 days after delivery, 75% of the roots are healthy (firm and lightly green/yellow). I hope the flowers look like the sales picture, because the other "Masdevallia porphyrea" I have from last year's order from Ecuagenera proved to be a mislabled Masdevallia tridens when it bloomed!
We are glad to hear that your Masdevallia arrived in good condition and is recovering well. We apologize for any inconvenience. We hope you enjoy the beautiful flowers of your Masdevallia porphyrea. Have a great day!
