Gongora bufonia

This is a medium-sized, epiphytic species, known for its unique, pendent flower spikes. The plant has pleated leaves and prefers to be grown in baskets to allow the flowers to hang freely.

• Light: Moderate, indirect light is best. Provide bright light but shield the plant from harsh, direct sunlight to prevent leaf burn.
• Temperature: Hot to Warm. Daytime temperatures should be70-85°F (21-29°C). Maintain warm nights, ideally 60-75°F (16-24°C), ensuring a modest drop from the daytime temperature.
• Humidity: High humidity (60-80%) is required. Excellent air circulation is vital to prevent leaf spotting and rot, especially in high humidity.
• Watering: The plant needs to be kept consistently moist during the active growing season. Allow the medium to approach dryness briefly between thorough waterings. Reduce watering slightly during the winter rest period.

Additional Notes

The plant produces spectacular, hanging flower spikes (inflorescences) from the base of the pseudobulbs, often reaching up to 12" (30 cm) long. The numerous, waxy flowers are typically mottled with yellow, red, and brown, and are often fragrant.
