Description

Description

This sprawling orchid, is found in Papua New Guinea, growing as an epiphyte or terrestrial in lower montane forests at elevations of 1900 to 2400 meters. It has an elongated, creeping rhizome with large, widely spaced pseudobulbs (up to 8 inches long). Due to its rambling growth habit, it requires a large mount or basket.

  • Light: Provide partial shade. It should receive diffused light, avoiding any direct, harsh sun exposure.
  • Temperature: This species prefers cool to warm conditions, likely due to its high elevation origin. Maintain temperatures generally between 60-80°F (16-27°C), ensuring cooler night drops.
  • Humidity: High humidity is essential for this species. Aim for levels of 70% or higher. Excellent air movement is critical to prevent disease in these conditions.
  • Watering: Water regularly and thoroughly, but ensure quick drainage. The rambling growth and required large mount suggest it may dry out faster than potted varieties.

Additional Notes

It produces single flowers, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in size, on long inflorescences. The specific name refers to the three grooves often noted in its structure.
