Description

Description

A spectacular variety of C. purpurata, featuring the highly sought-after 'uba tuba' dark form with dramatic splash patterning on the petals and sepals. This intermediate-growing Cattleya produces large flowers with intense coloration and unique variegation, making it a prized specimen for serious collectors.

  • Light: Bright light, equivalent to 30-50% shade cloth. High light levels are essential for developing the characteristic dark coloration and promoting abundant flowering.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to warm conditions with daytime 70-85°F (21-29°C), nighttime 60-68°F (16-20°C). A 10-15°F temperature drop between day and night promotes flowering.
  • Humidity: 50-70% with good air circulation. Tolerates moderate humidity levels once established.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly when medium approaches dryness, typically every 5-7 days during active growth. Reduce watering slightly after pseudobulbs mature. Ensure excellent drainage to prevent root rot.

Additional Notes

The 'uba tuba' variety features deep purple-magenta coloration with unique splash variegation on each flower. Blooms in late spring to summer with 3-6 large, fragrant flowers per inflorescence.
