Description

Description

This miniature, creeping epiphytic species is widely distributed from southern Mexico down to Colombia and Venezuela. It is known for its compact, tufted growth habit, with short stems carrying fleshy leaves. It is appreciated for its long-lasting, contrasting bicolored flowers.

  • Light: Requires bright, indirect to medium light. It can tolerate higher light than many orchids but must be protected from strong midday sun to prevent leaf burn.
  • Temperature: An intermediate to warm-growing species. Daytime temperatures should range from 70-85°F (21-29°C). Night temperatures can drop to 60-70°F (16-21°C). It does not require a large temperature drop to flower.
  • Humidity: Requires moderate to high humidity, ideally between 50% and 75%. Good air circulation is essential to prevent stagnant conditions, especially given its clustered growth habit.
  • Watering: Water regularly year-round, allowing the substrate or mount medium to dry slightly between waterings. While it prefers not to dry out completely, avoid waterlogging, particularly in winter.

Additional Notes

This is a miniature plant, typically forming tufts or creeping mats no more than 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It produces solitary or paired flowers at the stem apex. The waxy flowers are notably large in proportion to the plant's size, about 1 inch (2.5 cm) across, and are very long-lasting.
