Description

Description

This is a modern hybrid, resulting from the cross of Stan. jenischiana × Acn. densa. This intergeneric hybrid combines two closely related, large-flowered genera, resulting in an orchid known for its heavy, waxy, and often showy blooms.

  • Light: Bright, indirect light is ideal. Filtered sunlight is recommended, as harsh, direct exposure can easily scorch the leaves and pseudobulbs.
  • Temperature: Intermediate to Cool-Intermediate. Aim for daytime temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C) and a significant cool-down at night to 50-59°F (10-15°C). This temperature differential is often necessary to initiate flowering.
  • Humidity: High humidity levels, ideally between 50-70%, should be maintained. Good air movement is essential, especially when humidity is high.
  • Watering: The substrate should be kept consistently moist but never waterlogged. Use a coarse, well-draining mix that provides moisture retention while allowing excess water to escape quickly.

Additional Notes

The inflorescence of the Stanhopea parent typically grows downwards through the pot. Therefore, this hybrid is best grown in a slatted wooden basket lined with coconut fiber or sphagnum moss to allow the pending flower spikes to emerge freely. The flowers are heavy, waxy, and often intensely fragrant.
