Information

Description

Description

A large and elegant species from the cloud forests of South America, producing solitary flowers on tall, upright scapes from the base of well-developed pseudobulbs. The blooms are exceptionally broad and flat, with wide, rounded tepals and a prominent trilobed lip featuring a vivid callus and deeply veined lateral lobes.

  • Light: Bright indirect light with 40–60% shade cloth; avoid direct sun, which can bleach the broad, strap-like foliage.
  • Temperature: 54–75°F (12–24°C); an intermediate grower that performs well with stable temperatures and good air movement.
  • Humidity: 65–80%; consistent humidity is important for healthy root development and prolific blooming.
  • Watering: Water thoroughly and allow the mix to partially dry between waterings; avoid prolonged saturation at the root zone.

Additional Notes

Best grown in a well-draining bark-based mix in a medium to large pot. One of the most impressive large-flowered Maxillaria species, prized for its broad, flat blooms and refined form. Shipped bare root in well-established condition.
