Description

Adonidia merrillii Culture

  • Light: Adonidia merrillii prefers full sun to partial shade. It thrives in bright, direct light but can tolerate some shade, especially in hotter climates.
  • Temperature: Ideal temperatures range between 21-32°C (70-90°F). It can tolerate brief drops to 10°C (50°F), but prolonged exposure to cold can damage or kill the plant.
  • Humidity: Adonidia merrillii thrives in high humidity environments, typical of tropical regions. If grown indoors or in drier climates, mist the leaves regularly or use a humidifier to maintain adequate moisture levels.
  • Watering: Water regularly, keeping the soil evenly moist but well-drained. Avoid waterlogging, as this can lead to root rot.

Additional Notes:

  • Adonidia merrillii is a solitary palm, meaning it grows as a single trunk. It is a relatively small palm, reaching heights of 5-6 meters (16-20 feet) at maturity.

  • Flowers and Fruits: Adonidia merrillii produces small, creamy-white flowers followed by bright red fruits that ripen in late fall or winter, giving it the name "Christmas Palm." The fruits are ornamental but not edible.
